SOME EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR ELIMINATING AND PREVENTING INSECTS FOR VIETNAMESE HOUSEHOLDS.

25/11/2025

With Vietnam’s hot and humid climate, the presence of small insects in daily life has become almost too familiar. However, we can’t deny the significant impact these tiny pests can have. For those who prefer not to encounter insects in their homes, here are some insect-control measures that ECV would like to share to help keep them from entering your living space. Many people simply dislike insects and don’t want to see them at all!

1. Use insect spray:

Apply insect spray to cracks, wall edges, and dark corners where insects hide. Avoid spraying on food or surfaces used by children or pets. This helps eliminate insects on the spot and creates a residual layer that keeps them from coming back. ARS, with its Japanese expertise, offers various insect sprays for different household needs.

2. Keep the kitchen clean and cover all food

Always keep your kitchen clean by wiping away food crumbs and grease after cooking, and make sure to cover all food—especially sweets and snacks. Take out the trash regularly. This removes the food sources insects rely on and helps prevent them from nesting, reducing the chance of reinfestation.

3. Use biological or DIY traps

You can place biological or homemade traps—such as glue traps, a baking soda and sugar mix for cockroaches, an apple cider vinegar trap with a few drops of dish soap for flies, or water-and-yeast traps for mosquitoes. These traps help eliminate insects already inside the house and, when placed in strategic spots over time, also reduce their ability to reproduce, preventing them from returning.

4. Use natural essential oils

Natural essential oils like lemongrass, peppermint, tea tree, or lavender can be diffused in the house or diluted and sprayed in corners, under cabinets, and around windows, or placed in sachets in different rooms. Their strong scent helps repel insects and keeps them away from your living space, creating a “no-go zone” that discourages them from coming back. This method both repels and prevents insects long-term while remaining safe for children and pets.

5. Block entry points and fix damp areas

Seal all potential entry points such as door gaps, vents, and openings by using rubber seals or mosquito screens. At the same time, eliminate damp spots by emptying standing water, turning over containers, replacing water in plant pots or vases, and drying areas prone to moisture. This not only prevents insects from getting inside but also removes breeding environments for mosquitoes, cockroaches, and ants—helping stop them from coming back.

6. Keep the surrounding environment clean and dry

Regularly clean your yard, remove wet leaves, trim overgrown plants, and eliminate standing water around the house. This greatly reduces breeding spots for insects—especially mosquitoes and ants—and limits their chances of entering your home. When combined with the tips above, this helps create a cleaner, safer environment that both eliminates existing insects and prevents them from returning long-term.

Giữ môi trường xung quanh nhà sạch sẽ và khô thoáng

The likelihood of encountering insects in your home increases from June to August, when higher temperatures and humidity boost insect activity. While insects play an essential role in the Earth’s ecosystem, it’s important to keep disease-carrying, allergy-inducing, or home-damaging pests out of your living space to stay comfortable. Try the methods above to move toward a pest-free home. And if you have any other effective tips, feel free to share them with ECV!
