A FEW EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR ELIMINATING AND PREVENTING INSECTS FOR VIETNAMESE HOUSEHOLDS

25/11/2025

With Vietnam’s hot and humid climate, the presence of small insects in daily life has become all too familiar. However, their impact should not be underestimated. For those who prefer not to encounter insects at home, here are some insect control tips that ECV would like to share to help eliminate them and prevent them from entering your home!

1. Use Insect Spray:

Use a specialized insect spray to target cracks, baseboards, under the kitchen, and dark areas where insects often hide. Be careful to avoid spraying directly on food, surfaces frequently touched by children, or pet areas. This method not only kills insects on contact but also leaves a residual layer that prevents their return for several weeks. Combined with regular cleaning, it significantly enhances both extermination and prevention. The ARS brand, leveraging its extensive experience with insect control products from Japan, offers Vietnamese households a wide range of sprays—from specialized to multi-purpose solutions.

2. Keep the Kitchen Clean and Store Food Properly:

The second measure is to always keep your kitchen clean—wipe away food crumbs and grease after cooking—and store food in sealed containers, especially sweets and snacks, while taking out the trash regularly. This not only removes the food sources that insects need to survive but also reduces the chances of them building new nests, helping to prevent reinfestation over the long term.

3. Use Biological or Homemade Traps:

Set up biological or homemade traps, such as sticky traps or a baking soda and sugar mix for cockroaches, apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap for flies, or water traps with yeast to attract mosquitoes. These traps not only directly eliminate insects already present in your home but also reduce their reproduction when placed long-term in strategic locations, effectively preventing their return.

4. Use Natural Essential Oils:

Natural essential oils such as citronella, peppermint, tea tree, or lavender can be diffused in your home or diluted for spraying in corners, under cabinets, on windowsills, or used in sachets placed around rooms. Thanks to their strong scent, these oils repel insects, limit their contact with indoor environments, and create a “no-go zone” that discourages their return. This method provides both extermination and long-term prevention while remaining safe for children and pets.

5. Seal Entry Points and Manage Damp Areas:

An important preventive measure is to block all potential entry points by sealing door cracks, vents, and using rubber gaskets or mosquito screens. At the same time, eliminate damp areas by turning containers upside down, changing water in plant pots and vases, and wiping dry any spots where water tends to accumulate. This not only prevents insects from entering your home but also removes breeding grounds for mosquitoes, cockroaches, and ants, effectively reducing the chance of reinfestation.

6. Keep the Surroundings Clean and Well-Ventilated:

Finally, tidying up the yard, removing damp leaves and debris, trimming the grass, and ensuring no standing water around the house can significantly reduce insect breeding grounds, especially for mosquitoes and ants, thereby limiting the number of insects entering your home. When combined with the tips above, this creates a clean and safe environment that not only eliminates existing insects but also prevents their return in the long term.

Giữ môi trường xung quanh nhà sạch sẽ và khô thoáng

The likelihood of encountering insects at home increases from June to August, when higher temperatures and humidity make them more active. Insects can be essential creatures that support the Earth’s ecosystem. However, for comfortable living, it is necessary to eliminate insects that carry diseases, trigger allergies, or degrade the living environment. Start trying the methods mentioned above to move toward an insect-free home. If you have any other effective tips, don’t forget to share them with ECV!
